Long Story Short (Media Focused): Highly creative, committed and versatile Producer & Content Creator with a clear understanding of the creative process from pre to post production. Coupled with a passion for collaborating with intrepid storytellers, her expertise lies in the fields of story development, production management, casting, and story editing for scripted and non-scripted programs. When she's not making movies, Kris can be spotted around Toronto eating a burger and fries with her assistant, a tiny, black Pomeranian named Agent Fox Mulder.
Long Story Longer: Kris grew up right in the heart of Niagara Falls, Canada and made the official move to Toronto at the age of 17 - on her own, after graduating from high school in three years rather than four, and so ready to embark on the adventure of her life in the big city - as a barista at Starbucks. Clearly! (Side note: I still have nightmares about the drinks I used to make my customers, but I also had the most fun working there!) It was also here that she learned that writing "Kristin" on a white cup was easily confused with "Kristian", "Kristina", "Kirsten", "Karisitan" and one time "Alex", so she shortened her name to the one that always felt right anyway, "Kris".
With her entire childhood being rooted in Broadway show tunes and performing on stage, it was probably a surprise to everyone when she said, "Yeah no, I'm going to work behind the camera because I'm actually too shy to ever go back under a spotlight and be someone I'm not." Lo and behold, Kris the producer was born and you better believe she was driven as hell to live out her dreams, which has always been to pay attention to the world and tell its stories.
With a BFA in Film Studies from Ryerson University, she jumped into the world of indie features and reality-driven television and began creating content for major brands including Pepsi, LUSH, Canadian Tire, and the NBA.
Working with her colleagues and clients by day and going home at night to watch Netflix or YouTube, Kris became focused (ok, more like in love) on telling character driven stories with impact. It didn't matter the genre, if it was scripted or unscripted. The stories, characters and settings just had to haunt her. Here are just a few that still do:
Even with the fast and furious ride, Kris often felt pressure to find that sweet work + life balance (yeah, still working on it). She spoke to her girlfriends (and her best guy friends) who all wanted the same things - to find success and happiness. Instead of waiting around for someone to give her the breaks she'd been waiting for, she decided she needed to start carving that break out for herself and her inner circle.
What happened next was the simple realization that when you stop holding back and actually get together a plan of action, things magically start to fall into place.
And that's where we're at today. Kris is committed to inspiring and helping young women and men reach their dreams, learning that taking a backdoor to reach them is more than OK, and there are a few tips and tricks she's picked up along the way to help get you there. It starts with community, not competition.
Kris is currently in the process of relocating to Los Angeles to pursue her entrepreneurial dreams. She's also still waiting for UFOs to finally arrive on Planet Earth... #IWantToBelieve
Loves: hot summer nights, dinner parties, my dog Fox, neon lights, a clean car, 90s TV shows, mysticism, fresh cut peonies, #ASMR, palm trees, pizza + gluten free desserts I can binge on
Dislikes: unkindness, bad tattoos, waiting in lines, the actual color and hue of purple, eating anything that once had a face, disorganization, when people say "you'll get over it"
